Phimosis is a condition in which the prepuce or foreskin of the penis is tight at the free end and it can only be partially retracted or not retracted at all. The patient complains of pain during retraction of the prepuce during micturition or when the penis is erect.
It predisposes to infection as it is not possible to clean adequately under the foreskin. It is seen commonly in infants and sometimes in adults. The definitive treatment is a surgical procedure known as circumcision.
